Ventilation calculations

HRV airflow calculator

Airflow is one of the most important parts of an HRV design. In Ventiar, describe your rooms and use their parameters to prepare the next stage of calculations.

Prepare inputs in the editor

Prepare the layout and inputs for free. Saving requires an account; calculations and your project report are paid features.

What you get

  • room areas and heights
  • occupancy and room use
  • supply and extract balance
  • results ready for further analysis

Why does airflow matter?

Correct airflow values help plan comfortable air exchange and choose suitable locations for ventilation points.

From data to design

The calculator is part of a larger workflow: after defining the data, you can place vents and plan duct routes.

How to prepare calculator inputs

  1. 1Enter the room area and height.
  2. 2Choose the room use and number of occupants.
  3. 3Compare supply and extract across the full project, not only one room.

Example use case

Example inputs: a 30 m² living room with a 2.7 m ceiling has a volume of 81 m³. Record its use and four occupants as well. Volume alone does not determine the required airflow. Example balance reading: 150 m³/h supply and 140 m³/h extract leave a 10 m³/h difference that calls for checking the whole layout. These are illustrative values, not recommended airflow for this room or customer results.

Calculator versus manual calculation

Manual calculations are hard to maintain when the layout changes. A project-based calculator lets you update room data and spot imbalance sooner.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install software?

No. Ventiar runs in a web browser.

How do I calculate airflow for a room?

Start with room use, area, height and occupancy. Treat the result as a concept-stage input and verify it against the requirements of the actual building.
